During my senior year of high school, some friends and I would hang out at one of the three pool halls around town at least a couple of nights a week, usually more. The one that we frequented the most was a place called Miss Q Billiards. Part of the appeal was that, despite being underage, we could stay there late into the night because they didn’t serve alcohol. Every time we’d go to Miss Q’s, there were three bands that you would inevitably hear somebody play on the jukebox – Lynyrd Skynyrd, Type O Negative, and Pantera. At the time, heavy music like Pantera was not really my thing. It probably didn’t help that there were really only two Pantera songs anyone would ever play – “Walk” and “Fucking Hostile.” When I got older and had a few years of college under my belt, however, Pantera was a band I ended up liking quite a bit after revisiting them at the suggestion of a friend. Thank you, R. Kelly (no, not that R. Kelly).
