Why I Created This Site

Music has always been a big part of my life. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of car rides to my grandparents’ house while listening to the oldies station in my dad’s ’84 Ford Escort. Growing up in the shadows of Motown, the number of great songs we would hear on those drives seemed endless. During the spring, summer, and fall months, I remember going to all kinds of local festivals to watch my dad perform in various cover bands, playing anything from classic rock and country to traditional Polish polka music. As I got older, I began playing the drums in elementary school, which only fueled my interest in music even more. Once I got to college, my friends and I would get together almost every night and share all kinds of music with each other. It’s this continued desire to share great music with others that’s the motivation behind this site.

What Makes A Song Great

For me, a great song is one where all of the elements work together to create resonance. This resonance touches deep within the listener and causes some form of unconscious movement. The movement can be physical in nature – tapping your foot or hand, snapping your fingers, bobbing your head, dancing – and/or emotional in nature, stimulating a wide range of feelings. In essence, the song and listener form a symbiotic relationship, creating a bond that the listener never wants to break.

What This Site Is

Simply put, this site is a database of songs that have given me immense pleasure throughout my life. My hope is that these songs can provide the same to others who may not have heard them or have otherwise long forgotten them.

What This Site Isn't

First and foremost, this is not a ranking site. The order in which the songs are recommended is not meant to imply that the earlier a song is recommended, the better it is. This site is also not genre specific. A great song is a great song, period. While there may be more songs recommended from one genre than another, no genre is off-limits.

Further Information

Two songs are recommended per day as an ode to the 45 single; what I would consider to be a double A-side single. If songs were released in mono and stereo and there are drastic differences that make one preferred to the other, the version will be specified. If they are congruent, no version will be specified. If a song was released as a single ahead of a subsequent full-length release it appeared on, both releases will be listed with respective years released when different. All names and titles are listed as referenced on the LP labels, if available, or other album artwork if an LP was not an available format when first released. Lastly, cover songs are eligible for inclusion.
