I never listened to any Static-X until the latter years of college. My girlfriend at the time was into them, and they were set to play a show at a place called Clutch Cargo’s in Pontiac, MI, which she wanted to see. This was in 2003, a few months before the band released their third album, Shadow Zone. My girlfriend had given me their first two albums, Wisconsin Death Trip and Machine, to listen to before going to the show. Though I didn’t necessarily dig the albums in their entirety, there were enough gems in there to pique my interest in the show. In the end, I was happy we went because we ended up having a blast. The only downside was that it was by far the loudest show I ever went to and my ears rang for almost two days after. Another lesson learned.
