I graduated high school in 1999. While there were certainly a lot of fun things I remember from that year, one that stands out is the MTV Movie Awards, particularly Jim Carrey’s acceptance speech for Best Male Performance. For those who haven’t seen it, Carrey basically dressed up like an old hippie, complete with a long-haired wig, beard, and cigarette, and delivered one of the funniest speeches I have ever seen. One line that capped it off was addressed to the MTV programming department. “You know, would it kill you every once and a while to play a little Foghat?” Classic.
