If there’s one artist that always makes me think of my dad when I hear him, it’s Jim Croce, and not just because they both had great mustaches my whole life. My dad was a blue-collar worker, working in machine shops most of his life, who enjoyed playing guitar and giving back to the community when he had the time. I can still remember how proud he was when he received his pin commemorating 500 hours of volunteer work at Children’s Hospital in Detroit. When he unexpectedly passed away in 1998, the local youth sports organization that my sister and I had long been a part of actually named one of their baseball fields in his honor, which still stands today. Though we only had 16 years together, it was time well spent, and his influence on my life still continues to this day.
