What I would consider my first true “Hollywood moment” happened a couple of years after I moved to L.A., while I was getting to know a couple of really great friends of mine that I now consider family. We were sitting around, likely watching some Lakers basketball, when a poster for the movie Blue Velvet, I believe signed by David Lynch, caught my eye. I mentioned that I had never actually seen the movie before but was curious to check it out. While discussing the movie, one of them said, casually and with humility, “well, my grandfather wrote the song ‘Blue Velvet,’ and that was a catalyst for David Lynch to make the film.” “What? Like the ‘Blue Velvet’?” I asked. “Yeah, the ‘Blue Velvet’.”
