As I make my way through Michigan, I think about the impact that growing up here had on me and how it affected where I find myself today. I find it so fascinating how someone or something, regardless of how long or how short of a time it was around, can influence the world. While there are plenty of examples of this in music, one that immediately comes to mind is Janis Joplin. Her first record with Big Brother And The Holding Company came out in 1967 and it wasn’t but a short time later, in 1970, that she was already gone.
