A friend and I got field level tickets to see Metallica at the Rose Bowl in 2017. About a month before the show, my friend ended up spraining her ankle and had to be on crutches. She was a trooper about it, however, and still wanted to go to the show. We tailgated in the warm California sun for a few hours before they opened the doors, and, just as we were beginning to make our way to the gates, I remember turning around and seeing her bend down to pick something up she had dropped. As we continued to make our way to the gates, a woman came up to me and quietly said, “Excuse me. Just so you know, your wife has a tear in the back of her pants.” When I stood behind my friend, I saw that she had split her pants right down the middle like a cartoon. To top it all off, she wasn’t wearing underwear. “You’re not wearing underwear?” I asked her. “I never wear underwear. You know that,” she replied. I had to laugh. I provided cover for her by closely tailing her to the gate and then to the nearest merch booth. There was only one long sleeve shirt option to buy, which she did and tied around her waist. Problem solved. Lesson learned.
