No conversation about the great drummers in history would be complete without mentioning the names Buddy Rich and Neil Peart. While Rush was a band I could always catch on the radio growing up, Buddy Rich, along with many other jazz greats for that matter, was much harder to come across on the dial. I didn’t even really find out about Buddy Rich until I started playing jazz in junior high school. I remember taking a chance on buying a record of his called Big Swing Face, and it did not disappoint. Shortly thereafter, it was pretty cool to see a Buddy Rich tribute disc called Burning For Buddy in the stores, which Neil Peart actually produced and played on.
