I joined my first “band” when I was in 9th grade. This really just consisted of me and a buddy of mine from school named John. To that point, I had only played in school bands and practiced on my own outside of that. John and I used to practice in the attic of his uncle’s house, just up the road from where I lived. We’d play for hours on end during the summer, despite sweating our asses off in the Michigan heat, which gathered like a sauna in the small space we found ourselves in. Though we had a few original songs, we mostly played covers, a couple of which came from the Nirvana album In Utero.
