My dad worked in a few different machine shops for most of his life. By the time I was getting towards the end of elementary school, he worked the day shift pretty regularly, but earlier in my childhood he mostly worked afternoons and nights. I would usually be asleep when he came home for the day while working afternoons or came home for lunch while working nights. Every once in a while though, I would wake up during the middle of the night to see him, and he would often let me stay up with him for about half an hour. I felt so grown up being up that late, just talking and watching a little bit of TV with him. One show we’d frequently watch together during that time was Taxi, which I absolutely loved.
