Quincy Jones has touched various parts of my life, sometimes knowingly, sometimes unknowingly. The earliest encounter was watching the TV show Sanford And Son with my grandma when I was very young. It wasn’t until many years later that I learned he had written the theme song. The most recent encounter involved some work on an album with Quincy Jones conducting Count Basie and his orchestra. Closer to the middle was the unforgettable experience of seeing Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery in the theater and wondering who did the music during the opening credits.
