Mort Crim was an anchorman and staple of the Channel 4 news in Detroit for pretty much my entire childhood. While living with my buddy Red Ryan towards the end of college, we had a lengthy conversation about the band The White Stripes. Ryan had a couple of their records, but I only knew them through the radio. In discussing the group, he told me about a song called “Little Acorns,” featuring an intro by none other than Mort Crim, which I thought was hilarious and killer. It definitely got me more interested in the band, though it wouldn’t be until a few years later that I acquired my first White Stripes album.
