Double A-side Single #239

The second time I attended Record Store Day it was even bigger and crazier than the first. Despite getting to the store earlier than we had the previous year, we were farther back in line. When the store finally opened, it was a mad dash to the main bins holding the day’s releases. By the time I got in, I was about eight or nine rows of people deep around the bins. Some of the people in front would call out artist names to the people in back, who would then shout out the name in the hopes of getting the record passed back to them. Every time I heard “Fela Kuti” I’d reply in kind, but the record would never make it back to me. After about 30 or 40 minutes, I had pretty much given up hope. I decided to give it one last effort in a different section by the front counter. “Fela Kuti! Fela Kuti!” I shouted. Nothing. When I turned to leave, I saw an employee who asked me, “you’re looking for Fela Kuti?” As I nodded my head in agreement she said, “I’ll get you Fela Kuti.” She disappeared through a door behind the counter, returning shortly thereafter with a copy of the record I wanted, and I could not thank her enough.
