One of the most tedious projects I’ve encountered in my career was working with the multi-track tapes for the album Winelight by Grover Washington, Jr. Unfortunately, despite many attempts at remediation over a long period of time, the tapes would not play for very long before the quality of the audio would begin to deteriorate. Because of this, I had to capture the audio in 5 – 10 second pieces and reassemble the whole thing digitally to match the tapes. With the average song length being about six minutes, it was quite the labor of love.
