I’ve seen videos of Alice Cooper talking about the band’s early days and how people would automatically assume that his name was Alice Cooper, despite it really being Vincent Furnier, just because he was the lead singer. When the band Hootie & The Blowfish hit the scene, I kind of did the same thing, assuming that the lead singer was named Hootie before eventually learning that his name was really Darius Rucker. Of course, I was also only 12 years old, so I’m sure that played into it.
