As mentioned in the About section of this site, I think a great song tends to have a strong pulse that the listener can feel within themselves as the song plays out. Sometimes the weight of that pulse feels evenly distributed across every beat of a measure. Sometimes certain beats can feel like they carry more weight than others; reggae tends to be a good example of this, with the two and the four backbeat typically having a heavier feel than the one and the three.
