Regardless of how many fantastic songs I hear, I am always amazed at how a single great melody can really carry a song on its own. I think one genre that kind of exemplifies this is doo-wop. If the lead singer’s line isn’t engaging enough, there’s usually not a lot of other instrumentation that can come to the rescue. This is exactly what I love about both of the songs for today. Outside of the vocals, the only other elements of the songs are bass, drums, or percussion, and yet, it all works.
