A coworker of mine and I were having lunch last week, and he reminded me of a funny story that I had completely forgotten about. He did some work for Steve Miller in the past and has kept in contact with him ever since. Because of this, when Steve plays Los Angeles, my coworker will typically go and see him. A couple of times, I’ve been fortunate enough to receive an invite. The last time we went, we ended up spending a couple of hours with Steve on his bus before he went on stage. At the end of our visit, he told my coworker that we should swing by the hotel after the show and hang out. Internally, I was excited by the opportunity but kept my cool and my mouth shut, thinking that my coworker would accept the invite. Much to my chagrin, however, my coworker declined. As we made our way to our seats for the show, he realized what had happened. “You probably wanted to go and hang out after the show, didn’t you?” he asked. “Well, I certainly wouldn’t have been opposed to it,” I replied with a smile. Considering the experience I had to that point, I couldn’t complain though.
