Since starting this site, I’ve had opportunities to honor some familial birthdays with song. If you’re an American, today finds us collectively celebrating another birthday and perhaps taking some time to reflect on our lives and the lives of those that came before us. I think about that a lot, earlier times of much more modest means, and it really tends to put a lot of things in perspective. For anyone out there who likes to read, a book I cannot recommend enough, especially on a day like today, is George Washington – A Biography In His Own Words, a real eye-opener when it comes to what it took to help establish this country all those many years ago.
