One of the first musical biographies I ever read was called When Giants Walked The Earth, a history of the band Led Zeppelin. The book provided some good background on each member’s pre-Zeppelin musical past and then progressed linearly through the making of each Led Zeppelin album, mostly focusing on Jimmy Page from that point forward. Something I didn’t know until reading the book was how much session work Jimmy Page actually did prior to forming Led Zeppelin. I really enjoyed the book overall, though apparently Page is not a fan from what I’ve seen elsewhere.
