I won my elementary school’s spelling bee when I was in 6th grade. In the next round, I faced off against all of the other winners in our school district, with my elementary school’s gymnasium acting as the battleground. After making it through a few words successfully, the last word I was asked to spell was “bungle.” For whatever reason, I absolutely panicked and blew threw a misspelling, knowing full well that I had lost as soon as I said the first wrong letter. My dad, who was in the audience, was pretty upset, as was I, because we both knew I should have gotten it. On the car ride home, I remember him saying multiple times, “bungle in the jungle, bungle in the jungle.” I had no idea what he was referring to at the time, but I finally put two and two together when I later heard this song by Jethro Tull.
