The death of Coolio yesterday was another unexpected and surprising one this year. I remember when the movie Dangerous Minds came out and how much talk there was around it at the time. But for as much chatter as there was about the movie, it was quickly overshadowed by the enormous success of Coolio’s contribution to the soundtrack. “Gangsta’s Paradise” was one of the biggest songs of the year, and it was almost a given that you’d see the video on MTV anytime you’d put it on. While this was definitely the song put Coolio on my radar as a kid, he was certainly no one-hit wonder.
