When I finally heard the name Rory Gallagher and gave his music a listen, I was shocked that I hadn’t heard of him much earlier. Style-wise, the music seemed like something that would have played well on any of the classic rock stations we had in Detroit, and, from reading about him, he seemed like the kind of blue-collar guitarist the city would have embraced. Alas, it was not until working my second engineering job that he came to my attention. My boss got some work transferring some of Rory’s tapes in the early 2010s and asked if I had ever heard of him, which I hadn’t. I checked out a live show Rory had played at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in 1976 and was hooked instantly.
