Of all the concerts I’ve been fortunate enough to attend, there have really only been a couple where an opening act I didn’t know caught my attention enough to seek out their records. In 2006, I went to see Primus at the Hollywood Palladium with a couple of friends. On that tour, they had a group called Gogol Bordello opening for them. I had no idea what to expect, but I noticed that there were quite a few people there specifically for this opening act. As soon as they started playing, I realized why. This was probably the most energized and entertaining opening act I had ever seen, and that’s to say nothing of how much I enjoyed the music. My buddies and I were as into it as anyone, and we all sought out Gogol Bordello’s music afterwards. Ever since then, I’ve seen them just about every time they’ve come to town.
