I hate it when I have a small part of a melody in my head without lyrics, but I don’t know the artist or the title of the song. We used to have a guy at work who was really good at figuring that kind of stuff out. All you had to do was sing or whistle a little bit of it, and he could usually figure it out. When he did this, he always made me think of the episode of Married… With Children where Al has a song stuck in his head that he can’t name and eventually seeks assistance from an expert at a record store. I had had this song by Rhinoceros in my head for long time before I was finally able to connect the dots with a little help.
