As I looked at the song lineup for the only LeRoy Huston album I’ve ever had a chance to work on, one title stood out, a song called “Cool Out.” In that moment I thought of a completely different artist, Ice Cube. I kept thinking of a background vocal in one of his songs where it sounds like they repeatedly say “cool out.” I knew Ice Cube had used some samples in the song, but I didn’t know what song or songs were used and thought that this LeRoy Huston song may have been it. When I stopped on “Cool Out” and gave it a play, I learned that my hunch was completely wrong.
